Chaos Terrain

Well it's being a long week but I've managed to finish up my latest masterpiece from bits I've had laying around for a while.
It's more chaos fantasy terrain, I sold the temple I made! So I decided to make another piece. The bulk of it is foam insulation board, carved, shaped and covered with plaster to add texture. The rocks are again cork board that's being ripped into shape to add that nice rough texture. The skulls on the pillars and the skull set into the slabs are also carved out of foam board.
Once the whole thing was painted it was time to add some static grass, it had to be dead grass purely to give it that proper chaos dead feel.
Then it was add a bit of detail, out came the spares box. That's one thing about Games Workshop kits, they nearly always come with loads of spare parts.
Some parts were cut up or altered slightly so they would sit on the terrain better, and of course I had to add some scratch built bits! They are only candles but for a first attempt I don't think they turned out not to shabby
So what's next? I'm not sure but scratch building is addictive and I've still got loads of ideas! So anything is possible!

So thanks for looking,

Games Workshop Assault Squad

I have finished up my next Ultramarines in what feels like record time.  Fair enough there are only 5 of them but even so I'm impressed with how they have turned out. So once again they appear in my take of the Ultramarine blue.
I've continued with the same theme for the bases so they will all tie in together once finished. The only thing I'm disappointed in with Games Workshop are the transfers! OK it could be me but I struggle to get them to sit on the shoulder pads correctly. I cut them out as close to the out line of the detail as possible but some still don't sit right on the shoulder pads. I even cut out the centre's of the transfers to try and help it curve over the surface but even so I'm not entirely happy with the results.
Other than that and the cost of some of their stuff I'm enjoying being back into Warhammer stuff! This is what happens when you start painting for other people, you paint stuff you normally wouldn't and it gets you back to stuff you haven't touched in years.
So there you go another post almost completed, two in a short space of time! I must be on a roll!
So thanks for looking

First squad of Ultramarines completed

At last I have finished my first squad of Ultramarines, I've being painting quite a few commissions of late so it's being nice to finish up something for me! I'm not complaining about commissions, it helps put paint on the table and gives me the means of investing in future projects so it's a win win for me. It will never make me rich but it's a real buzz painting for other people. So back to my boys in blues, I've not gone overboard with these guys I've just gone for a neat tidy finish.
The bases are layered cork tiles ripped up and stuck together, I'm using cork more and more! It's easy to use, easy to get hold of and it's not going to break the bank. Dry brushing picks out the detail and looks spot on.
My next addition is a razorback, the interior is painted so it's just the exterior to go! Just the exterior to go he says! There is also a box of assault Marines to add to my slowly growing collection. Of course there is always what Santa's hopefully going to bring me. So that's about it for this post

Scratch built Chaos temple

It's being a while since I last posted but I'm almost there on a few projects! So here is my chaos temple
It's mostly foam board and cardboard, with a few parts added from my bits box! The skull came from a trip to the coast and I think it adds that extra touch. The rock work around the steps is ripped up cork tiles, easy to work with and it gives an extra texture to the piece.
So all that's left to do is add the final bits of detail, grass tufts and a few more bits from the bits box. I've made it in 3 pieces so the layout can be changed slightly if needed.
So as always thanks for looking

Ultramarines WIP

It's being a while since I last posted. I've being painting more 40k stuff and here they are.
I will be honest I've gone for a slightly lighter shade of blue on them but it seems to have worked pretty well. The basing I'm still toying with but I've got plenty of ideas, so it will be deciding which one rather than struggling for ideas. The transfers are still to be added and a small amount of finishing up is required but I'm pretty impressed so far.

 So thanks for looking

Another Biker

This time I decided my new Biker was going to have his "old lady" with him. I finished the Biker 2 or 3weeks ago but his old lady didn't look right! so I ended up changing a few bits. So here they are
They are really nice models, pretty much like all the project Z stuff available. You can mix and match the parts from the kits and end up with some unique figures.
The pillion passengers really add to the models, I don't plan on adding to many but it gives you more options and they are a nice touch

It was tempting to build a figure that resembles Arnie from Terminator but I decided to give it a miss! Well for now at least.
So my Biker gang is slowly starting to grow, I still need to paint up the leader and his old lady which are in the middle of the build process.
So thanks for looking and catch you all soon

Blitzkrieg Germans

I have added some Blitzkrieg Germans to my slightly stalled Bolt Action collection. They are nice figures and I must say I enjoyed painting them more than I expected! So here is my first 10 man squad
I still need to add a few grass tufts to the bases but other than that they are ready to roll.
I am a bit of a plastics fan and the more sets I get the more bits and pieces I can add to my bits box. The warlord games sets do mix and match nicely, although in the past I have raided victrix Napoleonic parts to add more variety to the poses u you can achieve straight from the box.
I do seem to have more projects then I have time for! But that's nothing new with me.
So as always thanks for looking and I will post again soon! Well that's the plan!

Victrix Spartans

I just don't seem to have had the time lately to get anything finished, it's all bits and pieces and stuff for other people! Not that I'm complaining but my blog has suffered a little so I took some photos of my Spartans. I painted them a while back but other stuff took over and I haven't posted any pictures here, well not till now!
it's my usual poor attempts at taking pictures but hopefully they will give you an idea of what they look like. They are Victrix miniatures and they paint up nicely!
shield's really seem to make them, and I can honestly say they are all my own work. No real achievement when you see how easy they are to copy.

The red and white really seem to work well, I varied it a bit but hopefully the uniformity is still there. I'm pretty pleased with the overall look, and the basing seems to have worked out nicely.
So thanks for looking and hopefully I will be posting more stuff real soon
    So cheers for now

Project Z Bikers

I took a few photos the other day of these two but they turned out blurred. So second time lucky!
Project Z is underway and my first two bikers have hit the road ready to cause mayhem! You could almost call them  "Men of Mayhem" although my Biker gang is "devil's own"
So this is the beginning of my road warrior's on their iron horses! The box comes with a shed load of spare parts and they can mix with the other project Z sets, so it's mix and match to your heart's content. You get a chance to build the bikes in different ways,  and the Bikers and Biker old ladies get a fair amount of choice with all the parts included in the box.
I raided the transfer stash from all the kits I have spares from and added some freehand lettering.
So SID and his brother biker take to the road to kill zombies and maybe just raise hell!
So I've two more in the early stages of construction so I should have doubled my collection of Bikers by the next project Z update. The only one drawback of the biker gang box set is the gang leader figure, he is unique in appearance! I should add I picked up two box's so the second leader figure will take some converting to make him different in appearance.

So stay tuned for my next installment and thanks for looking

Space wolves

I have being working on these little fellas on and off mixed in with other projects. I seemed to gone full circle in my tastes for future projects, I started my hobby life with games workshop and airfix as I'm guessing many if us did. So to the figures
The amount of spare parts in this kit mean I could probably convert another 10 standard space Marines into space wolves and still have more parts left to go at.
I mixed a few helmets into the mix despite hearing that space wolves veer away from wearing them, you certainly get some heads in the box that scream character! Crazy hair styles and manic expressions!
Hopefully it shouldn't be to long before I post again! So thanks for looking

Project Z

I have started toying with a new Project! Project Z from Warlord Games. I suppose I have finally being bitten by the zombie bug, no pun intended!
They are really nice figures, and they have a good selection of figures from survivors to biker gangs! More of the bikers in later posts!
They are the first of many! Male survivors with a single female survivors thrown in for good measure.
Nice figures, plenty of spares and some awesome weaponry included! So that's the beginning of a new project despite my promise's of no new projects until I've cleared some of the lead/plastic mountain.

So thanks for looking

Caesarian Romans

Finally I got round to picking up some shield transfers for my Warlord Games Romans, and someone keeps mentioning my Romans whenever I praise his "Michal" from the famous and massively impressive Draw crypt. So without further a do
Not quite in the same class but still my first stumbling attempts at caesarian Romans.
They are just incase anyone was wondering plastic figures, and very nice they are. I'm planning on adding more soon but I have so much going on at the moment time is in short supply
The little big man transfers are a little tricky to start with but once you get the hang of them it's pretty straight forward.

So thanks for looking

The 1st Virginia Cavalry

It's being a while since I last posted, well it certainly feels like it. So this time it's something for my own collection! I've added some more Rebel Cavalry, and who else could I add other than the 1st Virginia Cavalry.
Lighting here today is terrible but I'm hoping that the photos are up to scratch, it would be a shame not to do justice to these lovely little sculpts. They are excellent little figures and they have painted up nicely as always with Dixon miniatures.
I'm hoping the black as turned out okay, I've used two different greys to highlight between the facings on the uniform and all the black equipment. I have done a little bit of work on these figures, nothing major! The officer is simply a trooper with his carbine removed, the standard bearer just needed a gauntlet on the had holding the flag. I could of just painted it without adding it but it just bugged me and if your going to do it, then do it right. The bugler was also a trooper with a arm swap for a Perry's plastic bugle arm, and the gauntlet added with greenstuff.

So that's about it, I always enjoy painting Dixon ACW miniatures. I think it kind of shows with the amount I have in my still growing collection.
What's next, well knowing me it could be absolutely anything from Space Marines to more ACW.
So catch you all soon

Games Workshop Blitza-Bommer

I was asked by my local model shop to paint up a ork bommer for a customer, so what could I say other than yes! It means I've neglected my own hobby time but I'm rather impressed with the end results.
I had free rein on painting it, so I'm hoping it turned out orky enough!
I'm no expert with the camera and the photos where a little rushed but I'm hoping it gives a good account of the model.
I've added a few bits of freehand work to try and capture the overall look.
"Orks rulz" was the obvious starting point, then it just seemed natural to add a few more bits!
I think its all come together nicely!
so thanks for looking and I will hopefully manage to polish off a few more bits for myself pretty soon.
Thanks for looking
