Plastic Afrikakorps from Warlord Games

Bolt Action Afrikakorps

These have been laying around almost finished for a while now! Ok almost 11months nearly finished. It really was just a case of a few bits needing touching up and the basing finished. I was slightly disappointed with the choice of rifle arms in the set but all in all I think they turned out rather well. So on to the figures 2 full ten men squads and a bit of support with a mortar crew.

      First squad

Second squad

 and finally the mortar team

I varied the colours to give them the appearance I like when it comes to WW2, uniformed but not to uniformed. So thanks for looking and I will post again soon.

Cheers for now Russ

Full metal Jacket

Normally I shy away from character models, I never seem to be able to capture the real look of them. So I surprised myself when I ordered these guys from Empress Miniatures.

Joker, Cowboy, Eightball and of course Animal Mother are such iconic characters I did consider just painting them as just normal grunts but! Well take a look a see for yourselves. For some reason I had real problems trying to get the camera on my phone to focus.

Animal Mother

The full crew

I tried adding as much detail to the helmet covers as I could, the Confederate flag on Cowboys helmet was the biggest challenge, even with my smallest brush I just couldn't get it spot on.

The rest of the squad
I planned my fire teams around groups of 10,  a Bloop gun, an M60 and the rest riflemen.

The tally is now 3 full squads and still more to paint, I didn't do a great job working out how many I needed so my next squad is going to be a tad short. I did order some Vietcong although I'm still playing around with a flesh tone that I'm completely happy with. I will hopefully be posting my next batch of recruits sooner rather then later.

So thanks for looking , feel free to comment! Feedback is always welcomed

Random clearout stuff

The purge continues, I'm determined to clear some space so I'm putting more stuff up for grabs. I must confess to having boxes and boxes of stuff painted and unpainted that I know will probably never see the light of day or war again.

So hopefully some of it will find it's way into a loving home and someone else will get some pleasure out of it.

So on to the goodies

Good afternoon Vietnam part2

I've managed to complete another few figures for my Vietnam collection, the more of these figures I paint the more I like them . I'm expanding my collection slowly and trying pick up figures in small batches so I dont get buried in a lead mountain and overwhelmed by it all. I almost sound like I'm organised and have given some serious thought to my latest project. Vietnam may have being a foreign war but something really resonates about it. I know all wars are futile and horrendous but Vietnam seems to be on par with WW1 in my humble opinion. The waste of any human life is horrendous, I do try and treat all my projects with respect for the subject matter that they deserve.

    The figures
one of the most iconic images of US troops! Lock and load!

as with the other figures I tried to reproduce some of the helmet art that adorned almost every grunts helmet. Although at this scale it ain't easy!
I'm unsure if its all historically correct but hey I did have a bit of fun while doing them.

M60, bloop gun and M16s all part of the armoury put to use by the US troops.

these really are cracking little figures and paint up beautifully, Empress Miniatures and Paul Hicks deserve a clap on the back for releasing and sculpting these gorgeous little figures.

I'm planning on adding one more 10 man squad before I move onto the NVA, the squad will of course include a few characters from Full Metal Jacket. I resisted for a while but after rewatching it I gave in and ordered Joker, Cowboy, 8 Ball and Animal.  So watch this space as they say!

Well that's another entry for my humble blog, thanks for reading and thanks for looking.
All the best

Good afternoon Vietnam

This doesn't happen often very enough but I'm on my second posting today! I have spoke briefly about wanting to add Vietnam to my collection since I was much much younger! and now thanks to Empress Miniatures i  now can! My usual casual approach to a new project is jump in with both feet and buy shed loads of stuff straight away. Due to limited finances this is a project which will grow slowly, I've almost finished up my first two squads of Marines so I ordered my first NVA today. I must admit I also added the character pack from Full Metal Jacket to the order. So on to the figures, lovely clean looking figures and crisp detail

To me they look the part perfectly, I'm no expert but I know what I like and these guys look great. I like to vary the colours within reason but hopefully not enough to spoil the cohesive look.

The figures are beautifully sculpted by Paul Hicks, he is a very talented man! So far I haven't found a figure in the range I dont like,  I'm hoping going forward the range continues to grow and go from strength to strength! I'm hoping for Australian forces at some point but I'm happy with the Marines for now.

So thanks for looking, I'm half way there on my next 10 man squad so fingers crossed it wont be to long before they make an appearance.

Thanks for looking
